Threats abound in this world. How to deal with them? The best way is to see them coming. The bad guys have a first mover and often a numbers advantage. Reacting to their aggression puts you at a disadvantage, so avoiding a dangerous situation is your best defense. But if you can’t avoid it, then you must react. Can you diffuse the situation by de-escalation? If not, it’s game on. You need self-defense skills like strength, martial arts, tactics, and weapons training. The more skills the better. The more developed these skills the better.
However, victory is not guaranteed. That is where you need faith. Faith in the Lord gives you peace. Peace gives you strength and confidence of action. “…Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” – Psalm 23, Written by David, King of Israel
Although David triumphed over Goliath, death for David meant that he would still be with the Lord forever. So, David couldn’t lose. Doing God’s will, backed by boundless faith, gave David strength and confidence of action. His bravery and selflessness were a result of his walk with God. If you do God’s will, with full faith and trust in Him, you also can not lose, even in death.
Home security can be expensive. However, any step forward improves your situation. So do what you can. What gives you the most bang for your buck?
Start with an assessment of your home, neighborhood and threats. Reinforce points of entry, install cameras, and make it more difficult for intruders to access through windows. Use lighting, landscaping and topography effectively. Protect your home from fire, carbon monoxide, and infestations. Develop and practice emergency procedures like evacuations and sheltering-in-place. Be prepared to defend your home and your family.
We understand that developing self-defense skills can be a daunting task. Factors to consider are your skill set, mobility, health, strength, and time you need to properly train. Firearms are a great equalizer if you lack many of the above, but you will need to put in the time and effort to use a firearm safely and effectively. You may also want to protect yourself from the many liability issues associated with firearms use. We can help you with many of these issues.
Physical protection of your home keeps intruders out. But what if there is a natural disaster or other event that effects your ability to stay in your home safely? Preparing for emergencies is an important consideration when developing a physical security plan. Whether it is a temporary power outage lasting a few hours or a major supply disruption, energy disruption or other catastrophic event, you should have water, food, hygiene protocols, a means to cook, medicines and security tools so that you and your family can weather the storm safely.
